This thesis examines the performance enhancements achieved by incorporating a solid rocket motor as a kick stage on small launch orbital rockets designed for transporting small satellites to low Earth orbit. The study begins with a review of relevant literature, including study of available commercial small launch rockets, technological challenges, and the benefits of using solid rocket motors as kick stage boosters. This review provides a foundation for the performance analysis. Performance improvements are evaluated through various scenarios involving different launcher payload capabilities, parking orbits, and elliptical transfer orbits. Key metrics such as payload capacity, velocity, and energy requirements are assessed to gauge the impact of the solid rocket motor on rocket efficiency and capability. The findings suggest that integrating a solid rocket motor as a kick stage could enhance the rockets capability beyond low earth orbit. Additionally, this enhancement may increase the commercial viability of small satellite launch providers by targeting the lunar market. This project offers valuable insights into the strategic implementation kick stage in small launch orbital rockets for lunar missions. The results contribute to the advancement of cost-effective and efficient solutions for small satellite launches to lunar orbits, although achieving precise lunar transfer orbit insertion remains a challenge.
