Urban Air Mobility (UAM) has emerged as a promising solution to urban transportation challenges through the use of electric Vertical Take-Off and Landing (eVTOL) vehicles. However, the ability of developing UAM systems is constrained by the availability of representative flight dynamics models and simulation platforms. In this research, a modeling and simulation platform of EHang 184 is built based on X-Plane interfaced with MATLAB/Simulink. The aircraft model was built from publicly available information and tested for hover stability, open loop attitude control, and closed loop altitude hold simulations.
The developed model shows good hover stability and the desired response to pitch, roll, and yaw controls. The altitude hold controller successfully controlled the aircraft at the commanded altitude of 400 ft MSL with a fast response time, about 1.8% overshoot and very small steady-state error. These results validate the proposed framework, which offers realistic and controllable flight characteristics and constitutes a solid foundation for future exploration of advanced flight control, autonomous navigation and trajectory tracking for UAM applications.
