Artificialpancreasenablesclosedloopautomatedcontrolforbloodglucoseregulationintype1diabeticpatients.Simplebacksteppingcontrollerforregulationofbloodglucoselevelhasrecentlybeenpro-posedintheliterature.Inthisresearchwork,wehaveproposedbacksteppingbasedadaptivecontrollerforintegrationinartificialpancreas.ControllerdesignhasbeenbasedonBergman’sminimalmodelwhichrepresentsthedynamicsofbloodglucose-insulinsystemofhumanbody.GlucoseeffectivenessfactorhasbeentreatedasanunknownparameteranditsvaluehasbeenadaptedusingLyapunovbasedadaptivebacksteppingcontrolapproach.Effectsofmealdisturbance,physicalnon-linearitiesandsen-sornoisehavealsobeenconsideredinthecontrollerdesign.AcompletemathematicalderivationoftheproposednonlinearcontrollerhasbeendescribedandsimulationresultshavebeenpresentedusingMat-lab/Simulinkenvironment.Resultsindicateimprovementintrackingresponseandovershoot/undershootcharacteristicsascomparedtosomerecentlydevelopedtechniquesinliterature.Proposedcontrollerassuresdynamicstabilityagainstdisturbancesanddeviationsinhumanbodyparameters.Practicalimplementationoftheproposedcontrollercanresultinbetterartificialpancreas.
