Sand production is a common problem in oil and gas fields, particularly in sandstone reservoirs. This issue can significantly reduce the effectiveness of production due to the continued production of sand. Understanding the fundamental sand problem analysis from the reservoir to the sand control method determination is crucial, along with the importance of meeting the success criteria for production. This study aims to create a simple methodology for sand problem strategy from several journals and apply it through parameters to six offshore wells using Particle Size Distribution (PSD) analysis. The objectives of this study are to create PSD analysis methodologies for determining mechanical sand control methods and to use the methodology to find sand control methods through mechanical and chemical sand control. The parameters used to determine the sand problem methods are D50, D10/D95, D40/D90, and sub 325 mesh (% qty). The study begins from the background of the Offshore North West Java block, which contributes to the production of oil and gas in Indonesia. The block consists mainly of sandstone reservoirs with a high probability of experiencing production problems, especially sand production. The study then outlines the objectives, which include creating PSD analysis methodologies and using the methodology to determine sand control methods. The methodology involves gathering data from well log data, lab data, and field measurements. The data are analyzed to identify sand problem tendencies and determine the sand control method. The results of the PSD data are D50, D10/D95, D40/D90, and sub 325 mesh (% qty). The study also includes a cost analysis to minimize redundant operations. The results of the study show that the chosen method for sand control is the WWS (Wire Wrapped Screen) method for 1 well and SCON (Sand Control) which polymer method for the other 5 wells. The study concludes that the PSD analysis methodologies have been developed to determine sand control methods for six offshore wells, considering similarities in parameter sorting across different depths and potential of nearby wells for further analysis.
