Field X is a mature field that has been producing for decades, resulting in most of its wells experiencing
production rate decline over time. Nevertheless, mature fields still hold development potential through
evaluation and optimization of active wells. Well performance evaluation is a critical step in identifying
wells that remain viable for continued operation. The heterogeneous reservoir characteristics in Field X
cause significant performance variations among wells, necessitating an indicator capable of quantifying the
degree of heterogeneity. One approach that can be employed is the Heterogeneity Index (HI), a numerical
indicator that describes the distribution and variability of performance among wells. This study analyzes
three HI methods, namely cumulative production-based HI, last rate-based HI, and cumulative production
per active days production ratio-based HI, to assess the consistency and representativeness of each method
in well performance evaluation. The evaluation results of these three HI methods are expected to provide
insights into the utility and limitations of each method for well evaluation in mature fields.
