Flow over multiple cylinders is a complex oscillating phenomena that depends on
arrangement, distance between cylinders, and Reynolds number. The phenomena
is studied because it has a lot of engineering application such as in vortex-induced
vibration (VIV). In this undergraduate thesis, the author will study the flow
phenomena of 2 arrangement cases: flow over 2 cylinders in tandem and flow
over 2 cylinders side-by-side. Lattice Boltzmann Method (LBM) will be used
to numerically simulate the flow. The cases will be done on Reynolds number
100 and 200 with distance between 2 cylinders of 1.5D, 2D, and 3D. CD, CL,
and St parameter trends are analysed and compared to various references. The
results are in good agreement with references except for one case on tandem
arrangement. Analysis on flow pattern is done with flow regime classification by
Igarashi/Zdravkovich (tandem) and Kang (side-by-side). The flow regime results
are good enough when compared to limited available reference.
