This study presents a mathematical model for designing a carbon dioxide (CO2) value chain. The model determines an optimal CO2 value chain from a fixed set of CO, emission points and a set of potential injection sites. A number of existing models for the transport of CO, in carbon capture and storage assume the CO2 will be carried through isolated pipelines that connect each source to the nearest storage site. The model evaluate the cost of transporting captured CO2 through pipes of different diameters, flow rates, and over varying distances using correlation. It designs a transport network and chooses the best suited oil fields. A net present value criterion is used. The model is illustrated by an example of a South Sumatra field with 2 oil fields and eight CO2 sources. A sensitivity analysis is performed on the most important parameters.
