Centella asiatica (L.) Urban with common name "Gotu Kola" or "Pegagan" is a plant from the Apiaceae (Umbellifera) family. The major chemical compound found in this plant is asiaticoside. This plant was known to have pharmacological effects such as wound healing, stimulation of collagen and glycosaminoglycan synthesis, and antioxidant activity. The objective of this study was to formulate a Virgin Coconut Oil (VCO) emulgel containing the ethanolic extract of Centella asiatica (L.) Urban. Extract of C. asiatica was extracted by reflux method using ethanol. VCO emulgel containing ethanolic extract of C. asiatica was formulated by using various combination of surfactant and concentration of gelling agent. The stability of emulgel was evaluated by organoleptic determination, pH and viscosity, globule size, freeze-thaw test and centrifugation determination. Besides, antioxidant activity of the extract was evaluated using DPPH (2, 2-diphenyl-1 -picoryhydrazil) scavenging assay. The required HLB of VCO was determined to be HLB of 11. Formula F7 (Tween 80, Span 80, and 0.7% Carbopol 940) and F8 (Tween 80, Span 80, and 0.8% Carbopol 940) showed stable after centrifugation test of the formulation before and after the incorporation of extract. The other evaluations conducted showed that formulation F7 was physically stable. The antioxidant activity of C. asiatica extract was lower compared to vitamin C which is shown with an 1050 of 14.83 ppm compared to vitamin C which was 1050 of 8.85 ppm. Formula containing Tween 80 and Span 80 and 0.7 % of Carbopol 940 was stable.
