Surfactant injection has become a widely used technique for enhancing hydrocarbon production in mature oil fields by reducing the interfacial tension. This study concentrates on the efficacy of surfactant injection into Field X using a simulation model. The interfacial tension (IFT) value is inserted based on laboratory experimental data. Utilizing a Spinning Drop Tensiometer, laboratory experiments were conducted to ascertain the LABS surfactant’s Critical Micelle Concentration (CMC) and measure the IFT. Additionally, the influence of varying salt concentrations on salinity was evaluated. The optimal surfactant concentration was 0.005% wt. The IFT data were entered into CMG-STARS by employing reservoir modeling to simulate actual reservoir conditions. A sensitivity analysis was conducted to evaluate the influence of salinity, injection rate, production rate, and saline ion composition on the oil recovery factor (RF). Implementing an injection rate of 400 bbl/day and a production rate of 400 bbl/d at a water salinity of 5000 ppm led to an increase in hydrocarbon recoveries of up to 47.53%. Furthermore, an examination of the impact of chloride (Cl-) and sulfate (SO42-) ions on the efficacy of surfactant flooding in brine composition was conducted. The results provide valuable insights for optimizing the surfactant injection to improve hydrocarbon recovery.
