Thispaperdealswiththedesignofobserver-basednonlinearcontrolofbloodglucoseconcentration(BGC)ofType1diabetesmellitus(T1DM)patientsinaLinearMatrixInequality(LMI)framework.Thecontrollerdesignreliesontheinformationofthestatesobtainedfromanonlinearobserver.Thecontrollawisderivedusingfeedbacklinearisationandregionalpoleplacementtechnique.Further,anumericaloptimisationmethodisproposedforthecomputationofthecontrollergainsbycapturingtherelation-shipbetweentransformeddomainandoriginaldomaindynamicsbyiterativelytuningthecircularLMIregionparameters(‘q’and‘r’)suchthatthelocationsofclosed-looppolesoftheoriginalnonlinearsystemareattained.Theproposedcontrollercandeliverrobustclosed-loopresponseofBGCwithinaspeci-fiedrangeofparametricuncertaintyandmealdisturbancesowingtotheappropriatelytunedboundofLMIregionparameters.Theperformanceoftheproposedcontrolleristestedfor100virtualT1DMpatientsinthepresenceofparametricuncertaintyanduncertainmealdisturbance.Bothseverehypo-glycemia(<50mg/dl)andpost-prandialhyperglycemiaareavoidedbytheproposedschemefornominalanduncertainparameters.
