The ship lift is used to dry dock and to launch ships. However, as it was built to be a better alternative than the original dry dock and slipway, it has a few crucial advantages that its counterparts do not have. It has also been recognized to have advantages over navigation ship locks, leading to its development being emphasized in the 21st PIANC International Navigation Congress. The first leverage it has is that ship lifts can serve many parking places. The second is that while a normal dry-docking system does not support the body as best as a ship in its waterborne state, the vertical ship lift are able to emulate that condition. It should be noted that in Indonesia, maritime development has become even more important, but it can only be profitable if Indonesian products can remain competitive on the regional stage. This can only be achieved by improving maritime infrastructure. With ship lift being one of the best systems a dock can have, helping in its advancement inside the country is the most logical route to go. The ship lift consists of a few systems in place, two of which are the transporter and the hoist system. This report will be covering components of those systems which can be analysed and safely chosen through several parameters that are stress, deflection, load, and material selection. Those components include the trestle, crossbeam, bogie, rail, and winch. The components’ safety factor will thus be found to choose the best design out a few.
