97 Chapter III Research Methodology III.1 Introduction In this chapter, the content of the research methodology of this study is presented as follows. First, the research philosophies explained how the study foundation should be carried out. Second, the data and research method demonstrate the type of data and research method to solve the research problem. The subsection of data and research methods consists of research strategies, research choice, research model, target sample & result of preliminary, time horizon, variables, reliability and validity, and closed by ethical issue. Furthermore, the research choices, particularly in this study, focus on case study and simulation that will be applied. In this part, there are explanations on specific steps to be taken, setup of the method to answer the research questions. The first method will use literature review that already explain in chapter II. The second method will use case study. Case study research distinguishes itself due to its in-depth inquiry in real-life setting/ context to identify what and why it is happening, understanding the effect and implications for action (Dubois et al., 2002), leading to detailed, empirical description and theory development (Dubois et al., 2002; Eisenhardt, 1989; Eisenhardt et al., 2007; Ridder et al., 2014; Yin, 2014) where the boundaries and its studied context is not always apparent (Yin, 2014). Thus, understanding context is essential in the case study (Saunders et al., 2016). The third method, simulation using System Dynamic will be explained specifically using simplified maturity levelling. This chapter closes with a conclusion that has been conveyed from the subsection of research philosophies and data and research method. 98 III.2 Research Philosophies Figure III.1 shows the research onions by Saunders et al. (2019). Several research- related matters have been marked with a red box in Figure III.1. This research tries to have a descriptive and prescriptive study maturity model in hospital supply chain management. Furthermore, this research also tries to model maturity stages in hospital supply chain management in emerging countries, Indonesia in West Java. This will develop the conceptual model of maturity stages in the hospital supply chain and have the possible scenario for each maturity level for the hospital supply chain - the enabler that enhance the highest maturity level in the hospital supply chain. Before conducting research to answer these questions, it is important to know the research philosophy and approach used in this study. This subchapter will discuss related the research philosophy of this research.
