i ABSTRACT TURBULENCE ANALYSIS STUDY USING THE WRF MODEL IN THE CASE OF BATIK AIR FLIGHT 2 JANUARY 2018 By Ahmad Abishadqi Bastary NIM: 12819018 (Undergraduate Program in Meteorology) Weather ranks first (75% of the number of aircraft accidents) as a cause of aircraft accidents. (Hermawan, E., & Abidin, Z. 2010). Based on a report on the avherald.com site, on 2 January 2018, there was a clear air turbulence on the Batik Air Boeing 737-900 aircraft bound for Surabaya-Jakarta at 13.28 WIB or 06.28 UTC at flight level 230 or FL230. Turbulence is a phenomenon that causes instability in the motion of an aircraft in flight which can cause aircraft accidents. The Batik Air Boeing 737-900 aircraft experienced clear air turbulence while climbing at an altitude of 7 km. Therefore, in this research, an analysis of the atmospheric conditions at the time of the incident was carried out and turbulence identification was carried out to determine the intensity of the turbulence experienced. This research uses sounding data, Himawari-8 satellite image data and NCEP-FNL data. This research uses the Weather Research and Forecasting-Advance Research WRF simulation method. The simulation was carried out due to limited observation data so verification was carried out using correlation values for the temperature and wind speed variables as well as the match between the cloud fraction variable and cloud top temperature.
