101 Chapter IV Results and Analysis In chapter II it is stated that one of the purpose of this study is to investigate and understand the significant impediments and potential solutions (source of competitive advantages) for small manufacturing industries on the island in Indonesia, both from the governments' and entrepreneurs' viewpoints are. Then, from the empirical finding, a logic model regarding how small manufacturing industry on the island in Indonesia build and sustain their competitive advantage will be proposed. To achieve the above two objectives, then, as explained in Chapter II, the study of literature related to competitiveness sources of island entrepreneurs shows that nine propositions become the conceptual frameworks in this study. Furthermore, the tabulation of theoretical impediments that are often faced by entrepreneurs on the island, as discussed in Chapter II, forms the basis of investigating the significant impediments. Hence, this chapter contains individual case studies of ten selected successful small firms in Bangka Belitung island province, to examine whether the empirical findings support the conceptual framework above. Then an analysis of finding common ground in the context of a shared view between the government and island entrepreneurs in seeing the main impediments in business development was also carried out to propose a comprehensive model per under the objectives of this study. To fill the research gap related to knowledge-based approaches on island entrepreneurs, as shown in table II.13, an interview analysis results related to knowledge management concepts for island entrepreneurs of twelve interviewees' will also be discussed in detail in this chapter. Finally, to confirm the proposed logic model, a factor analysis of a larger sample SMIs from eight island provinces in Indonesia was also carried out. Nevertheless, to enrich the analysis results, a study of what factors encourages someone to become an entrepreneur enhances the closing part of this chapter. 102 IV.1 Individual Case Studies In this study, we conducted an in-depth interview with a semi-structured interview protocol to minimize the errors and biases in the study. This business has been established since 1987 and until now has 12 employees with total turnover reaching Rp. 3000,000 per day. In 2015, getas risky was a 4-stars OVOP product from the Ministry of Industry, nonetheless, because it did not make any significant progress, especially for the export market, then in 2017, the assessment declined to a 3-stars OVOP product. The owner of Getas Rizky is Mrs. Jumika, who was quite elder but still very passionate. Figure IV.1 Getas Rizky a.
