INTERVIEW SUMMARY Interview 1 Respondent Profile Job Title : Vice President – Corporate Banking Group Company : PT Bank Mandiri (Persero), Tbk Industry : Banking Sector Date of Interview : 4 May 2023 Question 1 : What are the factors that affecting the bank selectively finance renewable energy projects, specifically Solar PV. The reputation and experience of project’s sponsors are the main considerations for the bank to provide loan in renewable energy project considering its characteristic of high capital intensive and technology advancement to develop the project. Moreover, the bank prefers the loan to be structured on the basis of corporate financing (i.e. source of loan repayment from the company’s consolidated cash flow) rather than project financing (i.e. source of loan repayment from the project’s cash flow), thus the financial capacity of the sponsor plays important role. Question 2 : How to comply with OJK Regulation No.42/POJK.03/2017 specifically on the issue of financing that needs to be avoided, including financing that requires special skills which the bank does not have. To response this issue, it is suggested for Bank Mandiri to learn and gain knowledge from more experienced global banks (e.g. SMBC Bank, HSBC Bank, DBS Bank) how they structure and finance renewable energy projects. This can be implemented through benchmark session and loan syndicated deal participation, specifically in renewable energy projects. Furthermore, Bank Mandiri can set a renewable energy workshop and project’s site visit which involves stakeholders to improve the skill, capacity and knowledge of the bank’s personnel.
