Nylon 6 membranes for ultrafiltration use were prepared by casting method from the casting solution (dissolution of the nylon 6 in aquaeous hydrochloric acic solution in the presence of ethanol). After maturation time at constant temperature for 24 hours, the solution was casted on a glass plate to be immersed in water at constant temperature. Membranes thus prepared show an asymetric structure as revealed by scanning electron photomigrograph. The membranes were annealed in hot water at different temperatures for different time. Effects of annealing were studied on gas permeation, water permeation, rejection coefficient, differential scanning calorimetry and x-ray diffraction. It was found that decrease in porosity (degree of swelling, void volume and water content), pore size, permeability and increase in degree of crystalinity, rejection coefficient of the membrane with increase temperature and time annealing.
