Keyword : Networking infrastructure; Internet

This report is an effort to identify various networking initiatives, current status & major recommendations. A significant increase in the Indonesian networking infrastructure as well as number of users is apparent in the 1995. We are looking at a total user of close to 20,000 in 1995. A total of sixteen (16) ISPs have received their licensed from the Indonesian government. Currently (end 1995) the total speed to Internet is 640Kbps, we are hoping to increase the speed to close to 5,4Mbps by the end 1996. ATM, B-ISDN & Frame Relay 2Mbps regional / nation wide backbone is currently in implementation & hope to be in operation by the end of 1996. Several TCP/IP-based VSAT networks are in implementation. A neutral hub among Indonesian ISPs is being proposed by ITB. Some of the activities & recommendations will reflect ITB’s commitment & view towards computer networking in Indonesia. The authors are not claiming the report to be complete as the computer networking development in Indonesia is too rapid and too distributed to keep up.
