Penyakit infeksi masih merupakan penyakit utama di negara Indonesia. Tanaman suku Apiaceae telah banyak digunakan secara tradisional untuk mengobati penyakit infeksi, salah satunya Centella asiatica (L.) Urban. Penelitian ini dilakukan sebagai verifikasi penggunaan tradisional tumbuhan suku Apiaceae. Uji aktivitas antimikroba ekstrak etanol 12 jenis tumbuhan suku Apiaceae dan dua minyak atsiri terhadap Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Candida albicans, Aspergillus niger, dan Microsporum gypseum dilakukan dengan metode difusi agar. Sembilan ekstrak etanol menunjukkan aktivitas antimikroba terhadap Escherichia coli namun tidak menghambat mikroba lainnya. Ekstrak herba Petroselinum crispum (Mill) Nyman ex A.W. Hill menunjukkan aktivitas inhibisi paling kuat terhadap Escherichia coli. Minyak adas dan minyak ketumbar aktif terhadap kelima jenis mikroba uji. Minyak ketumbar menunjukkan aktivitas paling kuat terhadap Staphylococcus aureus dan Microsporum gypseum. Tumbuhan suku Apiaceae terbukti memiliki aktivitas antimikroba dan minyak atsirinya berpotensi untuk dikembangkan.

Infection disease is still considered as the main disease in Indonesia. Apiaceae family plants have been used traditionally to treat infection diseases, one of them is Centella asiatica (L.) Urban. This research was done as a verification for the traditional use of Apiaceae family plants. Antimicrobial activities of ethanol extracts of 12 species of Apiaceae family plants and two volatile oils against Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Candida albicans, Aspergillus niger, and Microsporum gypseum had been tested using agar diffusion method. Nine ethanol extracts showed antimicrobial activities against Escherichia coli but did not inhibit other microbes. Extract of Petroselinum crispum (Mill) Nyman ex A.W. Hill herb showed the strongest activity against Escherichia coli. Fennel oil and coriander oil were active against five species of tested microbe. Coriander oil showed the strongest activity against Staphylococcus aureus and Microsporum gypseum. Antimicrobial activities of Apiaceae family plants had been proven and their volatile oils are potential to be developed.
