Penggunaan peralatan sehari-hari seperti peralatan perkantoran dan peralatan rumah tangga berkembang pesat. Peralatan tersebut membutuhkan suatu sumber energi, salah satu sumber energi yang digunakan adalah baterai litium. Baterai ini mengandung cairan elektrolit yang berada di antara anoda dan katoda. Penggunaan baterai semakin meningkat, sehingga baterai yang tidak digunakan lagi dapat mencemari lingkungan. Hal ini disebabkan karena limbah baterai cukup sulit terdegradasi di alam. Oleh karena itu, pada penelitian ini difokuskan pada modifikasi elektrolit dari baterai melalui pembentukan elektrolit bermatrik padatan polimer, sehingga diharapkan bila baterai dengan elektrolit bermatrik padatan polimer tidak dapat digunakan lagi dapat dibuang tanpa menyebabkan terjadi pencemaran lingkungan. Tujuan penelitian adalah sintesis dan karakterisasi elektrolit bermatrik padatan polimer dari pencampuran poli-e-kaprolakton (PCL) dengan polietilen oksida (PEO) pada LiClO4 10%. Polimer elektrolit tersebut dikarakterisasi dengan analisis gugus fungsi menggunakan FTIR (Fourier Transform Infrared), analisis konduktivitas dengan EIS (Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy), analisis termal dengan DTA/TGA (Differential Thermal Analysis/Thermo Gravimetry Analysis), analisis kristalinitas dengan XRD (X-Ray Diffraction), dan morfologi permukaan dengan mikroskop optik. Dengan peningkatan komposisi PCL pada elektrolit bermatrik padatan polimer maka polimer elektrolit memiliki konduktivitas dan derajat kritalinitas semakin meningkat, akan tetapi stabililitas termalnya menurun.
Daily usages of equipment such as office equipment and household equipment are increasing significantly. These equipments need an energy source, one of common energy source is lithium battery. In this battery contains liquid electrolyte between its anode and cathode. Since the using of lithium battery increase rapidly and lithium battery cannot be naturally decomposed, so it can produce environment pollution. The aim of this research is modifying electrolyte liquid of lithium battery to become biodegradable solid polymer electrolyte. The electrolyte polymer can be naturally decomposed, so that the environment pollution caused by battery waste can be minimized. In this research, the biodegradable solid electrolyte were made from polyethylene oxide (PEO) and 10% LiClO4 with addition of PCL in various compositions. These electrolyte polymers were characterized by functional group analysis using FTIR (Fourier Transform Infra Red), conductivity by EIS (Electrochemical Impedance spectroscopy), thermal analysis by DTA/TGA (Differential Thermal Analysis / Thermo Gravimetry Analysis), crystallinity analysis by XRD (X-Ray Diffraction), and surface morphology by optical microscope. Based on obtained results, the increase of PCL compositions, the conductivity and the degree of crystallinity of electrolyte polymer increase, but their thermal stability decreases.
