Data kependudukan di Indonesia yang disajikan oleh BPS (Badan Pusat Statistik) diperoleh melalui sensus penduduk. Namun data kependudukan ini hanya bersifat tekstual dan belum mewakili keadaan sebenarnya. Mengingat kependudukan merupakan aspek penting dalam pertumbuhan pembangunan di Indonesia, maka pemerintah memerlukan informasi yang jelas mengenai data kependudukan.
Penelitian ini mencoba untuk memanfaatkan teknologi penginderaan jauh untuk mengatasi permasalahan tersebut. Pada penalitian ini digunakan teknologi penginderaan jauh dengan memanfaatkan citra Satelit Quickbird, yaitu citra dengan resolusi yang sangat tinggi sehingga bisa digunakan untuk mengidentifikasi objek kecil seperti perumahan. Dengan menggunakan metode pembobotan land use density, maka tipe perumahan yang diidentifikasi dapat digunakan untuk menggambarkan distribusi penduduk dalam bentuk peta distribusi kepadatan penduduk yang mewakili keadaan yang sebenarnya.
Demography data in Indonesia provided by BPS (Badan Pusat Statistik), it collected by inhabitant census. But this demography data just textually and not represented the real condition. Considering that demography data is one of important aspect in Indonesian development growth, so the government need a clear information about the demography data .
This research is trying to use remote sensing technology to solve that problem. By using Quickbird Satellite imagery with very high resolution, it possible to identify the small object such as housing. With Land use density weighting method, then the identificated housing class can be used to mapped the population distribution on population density distribution that represented the actually condition.
