Abstract:
Dual composition control of high purity distillation column is and industrial problem that is quite challenging due to the serve process non-linearity and nonlinear coupling. This process control is multivariable with multi input and multi output. Interaction between variable process input and output makes the purification of these variables. We consider four inputs: yD (purity of top product), XB (purity of bottom product), MD (hold-up column), MB (hold-up condenser), and four outputs: L (reflux), V (boil-up flow), hD (condenser), hB (column level).

There are many control methods to obtain good result for the binary high-purity distillation column process. Good response means that high purity in top product (distillate) up to 99% and very low purity in bottom product up to 1 %. We will propose the design control de-coupling of distillation column control systems to minimize these interactions and obtain good response. Methanol-water feed will be purified by using this column. Experiments show good result for small disturbances in feed flow rate and concentration.
