Generasi kelahiran 1977-1995, atau yang sering disebut dengan Generasi Millenials mendominasi demografi penduduk baik dari segi komposisi maupun tuntutan dan sifat ekonominya. Akibatnya, banyak ‘industri’ retail menjadikan generasi Millenials sebagai sasaran utama pasar mereka. Tipologi pusat perbelanjaan yang disukai oleh generasi ini adalah jenis Lifestyle center di manapada fasilitas perbelanjaan tersebut digabungkan fasilitas rekreasi yang pada umumnya memanfaatkan ruang terbuka. Retail-retail lifestyle center kebanyakan berupa retail butik, yang merupakan retail produk-produk local berkualitas baik dan high-end stores, toko-toko dengan brand/merk ternama. Jenis faslitas ini sangat disukai oleh generasi Millenials karena faktor kebaruannya yang memberikan pengalaman-pengalaman unik.


Gedung Lifestyle center ini dirancang dalam setting urban, di Central business district, Sentul City. Fasilitas ini terbagi menjadi tiga fungsi utama yaitu; apartment, department store dan lifestyle center. Tulisan ini fokus pada perancangan gedung lifestyle cente r di mana di dalam masterplan kawasan tersebut diberikan jaringan jalur pedestrian. Konteks lingkungan hijau pada fasilitas lifestyle center ini diterapkan melalui penyediaan jalur-jalur pejalan kaki serta gedung yang memenuhi kaidah hemat energi. Fasilitas ini dirancang meliputi berbagai fungsi seperti café dan restoran, retail-retail, food court, bioskop dan fitness center serta fungsi-fungsi penunjang seperti taman dan amphitheater untuk berbagai pagelaran acara ruang luar.


Rancangan gedung lifestyle center ini berkonsep pada pengutamaan pengalaman indrawi pengunjung. Konsep rancangan ‘inside out’ diterapkan untuk mengintegrasikan lingkungan luar dan dalam untuk mendapatkan pengalaman ruang yang unik dan menarik. Pada tampilan ruang luarnya, gedung-gedung tersebut dirancang agar pengunjung dapat menikmati aksen horizontal, yang sangat dominan dan bentuk-bentuk kurvalinear yang memberikan efek relaksasi dan atraksi. Pengalaman sensori pengunjung juga diberikan melalui rancangan di area ruang luar yaitu pada taman-taman dengan banyak pohon untuk meneduhi berbagai aktivitas di tempat tersebut. Rancangan-rancangan tersebut ini ditujuakan untuk memberikan pengalaman yang unik dan menyenangkan bagi pengunjung.

Generation born between 1977-1995, known as Millenials Generation dominates society demographic in term of portion as well as demand and economic capacity. As a result, many retail industries target them as their main market segments. Type of malls preferred by this generation is lifestyle center. Lifestyle center is a type of shopping mall that combines shopping facilities and leisure functions, usually in outdoor settings. Retails in lifestyle center usually comprises of boutique retails, that provide specialized local products and high-end stores, stores with famous branded items. This type of facilities are much more favourable to Millenials because of the distinction and unique experiences offered.


This lifestyle center sits in an urban setting, more precisely at a development complex in Central Business District currently developed in Sentul City. These complex facilities are divided into 3 functions, such as apartments, department store and lifestyle center. This paper is focused on the lifestyle center. The masterplan of the area shows the existence of a pedestrian network that also connect the site to other facilities within the CBD. Responding to that, the design of lifestyle center will accommodate the walkway with greenery. The lifestyle center will host several cafes and restaurants, retails, food court, cinema and a fitness center along with supporting functions like park and amphiteather to host various outdoor events.


This lifestyle center design concepts focus on sensory experiences of the visitors. ‘Inside Out’ concept integrates outdoor and indoor facilities to provide unique and interesting spatial experiences. As for exterior display, building is designed to please visitors with dominant horizontal accents. They will also gain sensory experiences through outdoor spaces that is designed with lots of vegetation to shelter them from sun glare. These designs purpose is to provide authentic and pleasing experiences for the visitors.
