Amonia merupakan limbah dari industri pabrik pupuk yang penting untuk diperhatikan karena dampaknya yang merugikan bagi lingkungan. Saat ini, pengolahan limbah pupuk masih menggunakan metode kimia, yaitu dengan cara penambahan kalsium. Terdapat cara biologis untuk mengolah amonia, yaitu dengan menggunakan Alga. Organisme fotosintetik ini dapat memanfaatkan amonia secara langsung sebagai sumber nitrogennya. Sebagai organisme fotosintetik, maka aktifitas metabolismenya dipengaruhi oleh intensitas cahaya. Berdasarkan hal tersebut, maka dilakukan penelitian tentang pengaruh intensitas cahaya matahari terhadap pertumbuhan C. pyrenoidosa dan kemampuan mikroalga tersebut mengkonsumsi amonia. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukan bahwa hingga intensitas cahaya 14 x 104 Watt/m2, pertumbuhan C. pyrenoidosa dipengaruhi oleh intensitas cahaya matahari dan hubungan antara intensitas cahaya dengan pertumbuhan C. pyrenoidosa berkorelasi linear. Selanjutnya ditemukan pula bahwa konsumsi amonia berkorelasi positif dengan laju pertumbuhan biomassa dan nilai yield coefficient biomassa dari amonia yang dikonsumsi adalah 0,001 g.biomassa/ mmol.

Deskripsi Alternatif :

Ammonia is a fertilizer factory waste that can cause negative impact to the environment. Currently, the waste is treated with chemical methods, by way calcium addition to neutralise the waste . There is an alternative treatment for ammonia, in example by using Algae. This photosynthetic organism can utilize ammonia directly as its nitrogen source. As a photosynthetic organisms, their metabolic activity is affected light intensity. Based on this, a study of the effect of the sunlight intensity on the growth of C. pyrenoidosa and the ability of these microalgae to consume ammonia was conducted. The results of this study show that up to the light intensity of 14 x 104 Watt/m2, the growth of C. pyrenoidosa was affected by the light intensity and the relationship is linearly correlated. Furthermore, it was found that ammonia consumption was positively correlated with biomass growth rate and the value of yield coefficient of biomass from the consumed ammonia was 0.001 g.biomass/mmol.
